Private, browser-based storage
Notes are stored in this browser, not uploaded to SwiftVecto during normal editing. Browser data can be cleared or become unavailable. The toolbar provides actions for importing UTF-8 text/source files, downloading as TXT in Notes/Focus or a source extension in Code mode, backing up all notes as JSON (including Trash), and restoring a JSON library backup. Hover over or focus an action to identify it. Deleted notes can be restored from Trash.
How to Use Advanced Notepad
Write visually formatted notes, edit code, or concentrate in Focus mode. Your notes are automatically stored in this browser, with options to export individual files and back up your library.
Overview
SwiftVecto Advanced Notepad combines a visual writing editor with a CodeMirror-powered source editor. Create and organise multiple notes, search titles and contents, add tags, pin important notes, recover deleted notes from Trash, and import supported UTF-8 text files. Code mode offers syntax highlighting, find and replace, line numbers, folding, indentation, and JSON validation. JSON library backup and restore help you move or protect your work without an account.
Benefits
How It Works
Notes are saved in the current browser using IndexedDB; preferences are retained locally.
Notes and Focus use a visual rich-text editor; Code uses a source-code editor with language-aware features.
Imported supported UTF-8 text and source-code files may be up to 5 MB each.
Use Download for the selected note or Backup for a JSON copy of the whole local library, including Trash.
How to Use This Tool
-
1Open Advanced Notepad, create a note, or select one from the sidebar.
-
2Choose Notes for visual formatting, Code for source files, or Focus for distraction-reduced writing.
-
3Use the formatting toolbar in Notes or Focus, or the developer controls in Code mode.
-
4Find notes by title, content or tag; pin, duplicate or move notes to Trash as needed.
-
5Import a supported text file or download the selected note when you need a separate copy.
-
6Regularly export a JSON library backup and keep it outside the browser. Use Restore to merge or replace your library when required.
Helpful Tips
- Wait for the saved status before closing the tab or switching devices.
- Use JSON Backup to preserve the whole library, including rich formatting, tags and Trash; downloading a single note is different.
- Restore with Replace only when you intend to overwrite the current browser library; make a backup first.
- Code mode is for editing code, not running it. Richly formatted notes are protected against accidental plain-text conversion.
- If an imported file is rejected, check that it is a supported UTF-8 text format and does not exceed 5 MB.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account?
No. Advanced Notepad saves notes locally in your browser without requiring an account.
Where are my notes stored?
In this browser's local IndexedDB storage. Notes do not automatically sync to other browsers or devices.
Are my notes uploaded to SwiftVecto?
Ordinary note editing and autosave happen locally in your browser rather than uploading document content for processing. Other site features, including analytics or advertising, may make network requests.
Can I recover a deleted note?
A note moved to Trash can be restored until it is permanently deleted. A separate JSON backup can provide an additional recovery option.
How do I move my notes to another device?
Download a JSON library backup, transfer it securely, and use Restore in Advanced Notepad on the other browser or device.
Can I restore a backup?
Yes. The Restore feature supports merging notes into the current library or replacing the library. Make and verify a backup before replacing existing notes.
Can I format notes without typing Markdown?
Yes. Notes and Focus use a visual editor for headings, bold, italic, links, lists and checklists.
Does Code mode support syntax highlighting?
Yes. Code mode highlights supported languages and includes find and replace, folding, indentation and JSON validation. It does not execute code.
Which files can I import?
Supported UTF-8 plain-text and source-code formats up to 5 MB per file. Binary documents and unsupported extensions are not accepted.
What happens if I clear browser data?
Your locally saved notes may be erased. Download and verify a JSON library backup before clearing browser storage or switching browsers.
Things to Know
- Notes, rich formatting, tags and recoverable Trash are stored locally in the current browser.
- A JSON library backup is not the same as downloading an individual TXT, Markdown or source file.
- Storage availability depends on browser settings, device capacity and private-browsing restrictions.
Disclaimer
Browser storage is not a guaranteed or cross-device backup. Export and verify important work regularly.
Importing a UTF-8 source file may not preserve its original byte-order mark or line-ending convention.
